    Synchronised Egg Laying

In a small pond there were at least 20 pairs of Azure Damselflies all looking for the best egg laying spot. They kept moving around faster than I could focus and my tripod had two legs on the wet side of the pond with the third at a different angle on the bank. Which meant a back breaking position for me.

7D Mk II with Sigma 180 macro lens and flash. 1/200 F14 Iso 400.

I slightly over exposed the pale areas but managed to recover most of the colour by doing a merge of two conversions from the same Raw file.

An amazing picture! Very well done!
What was the distance between the camera and the subject?
    Cheers,

Great picture, Geoff. That is an interesting subject and combined with a good composition. Well worth your effort.

    Thanks for the comments.

The subjects were between 3 and 5 feet away as they moved around the pond. That image has been cropped a little to remove another pair which were out of focus.

I took several shots of individual pairs and a few more groups but most of them had subjects facing the wrong way or out of focus pairs which couldn't be cropped out. I still have to sort through the rest of my shots but I know most will be rejects.

Not much to add to what others have said, other than this is really fantastic! The composition, colors and detail are superb.
    Thanks for sharing.
