    Three kinds of bees in one frame

    This is presented as a matter of interest only, no attempt at art. These trumpet vine flowers were a, well, beehive of activity at the LBJ Wildflower Center in Austin this morning:

    Tom, I had a look at your flickr page and you clearly are very familiar with insect close-ups, but are you sure that these are all bees? The green ones are not quite what I'd have expected to see, but that could be a reflection on my expectations .

    Those little green ones are, in fact, bees. Commonly called "sweat bees." The other two are a bumblebee and a honeybee, of course.
