I'm not sure that the lamp post that is pretty well in the centre of the shot is doing much either.
That being said, I like what you are trying to do. The town does have that "Old West" look if you ignore the cares and more modern elements. Hopefully you "worked the scene" and have some more images to work on.
I think, Sharon, I would be tempted to crop out part of the left side and go to a different size ratio. Yes, that puts the lamp post even more to the centre but it seems to concentrate more on the paved path which now leads to the far distance with a better sense of perspective. The left side doesn't really add much to the scene, except for causing some distraction.
I love a shot with linear perspective.
