'Yellow Bird' Apache Cultural Dance Group

The American Embassy here bought over the 'Yellow Bird' Indian dancers and I took the opportunity to see what I could capture when they performed yesterday. The group specialize in cultural presentations that celebrate the unique spirit of the American Indian

As the sun neared the horizon over the sea and spot lit the area through some trees the decent captures started.

Such a pity that some m***n who I suspect was one of the 'local' sound/light hire companies considered that on stage such a cultural performance, such colourful costumes and perfect narration by the groups head needed 'disco' flashing coloured strobes

Having been to a couple of Pow Wows, I can guarantee that disco balls and strobes are not part of the traditional North American native dance routines. I guess the organizers did not give the local sufficient information to correctly plan for the event.

Regardless, you got some nice captures under less than ideal shooting conditions.

At least the stage lighting situation gave me a chance to assess the results of what the 70-200mm & D800 would give with the ISO pushed up.

No 4 is also my favourite of the many I shot, it's the light, framing of the head and hand within the hoop that that help it. I've subsequently worked on a newer version, increasing contrast and brightness to give it more punch.

Thanks Tom, sometimes it's worth shooting even if the light is weird just to get experience of results achievable. I didn't bother to white balance
