Mom breaking up a fight

We spend most of the day at Parc Omega, one of my favourite locations for shooting wildlife.

The alpha female wolf had 5 cubs back toward the end of May; three have survived. The three got into a bit of a fight and mom showed up and showed them who was boss and broke up the fight.

I had a few minutes this afternoon to edit the second shot of this set.

The first I think, at least we can easily identify 3 pups in that one and there's more eye contact (albeit not with us!)

Undoubtedly, the mother wolf is the boss.
Very good photos! The first picture is better because we can see the three puppies and see the eyes (an expression of fear and respect) of two of them.

What was the distance from the wolves and you?

I would estimate that they were about 15m / 50 ft away from where I was shooting from. The shots were taken with a 350mm focal length on a full-frame camera. The images are cropped a little.

I'm glad my mother did not treat like this!

I think the first photo works best, in particular because of the fearful eyes of the cub farthest from the camera, looking askance at his/her mother.
