Nice shot, I wonder if lifting some of the shadows around the eyes would bring them out more, as they are really dark.... or is that just how they are?

Dear Ziggy
I have yet to read a mean critique posted on this site. That is what makes it so special. It adherents are such lovely, supporting people.

Really a nice, clean, contrasting BG.

Re: It's Tough Being A Deer
I shoot a lot of deer photos, to the point I rarely shoot them any more unless there is something special either with a facial expression, with an action or they tell an environmental story. That said, what I've learned is that by closing down at least one more stop in any head on shot will almost always get the nose and eye focuses on point.
While I like the pose, having the nose slightly OOF is a bit of a let down for me. The eyelashes on a deer are so dark, it's often quite difficult to get any color or brightness to those pretty brown eyes.
