    Good old things

Our old cat, Daisy, on her favorite couch (with bedsheet to catch hair), the old "Classic" Canon 5D, and the old Canon EF 100 f/2 Ultrasonic. Plus newish Canon 430II for bounce flash:

Thanks, Kay. She doesn't get the "big eye" and race around the house as much as she used to, or chase the laser dot so eagerly, but she's still pretty lively for an old lady.

I guess that you didn't know that when a new camera is introduced by a manufacturer, all previous cameras made by that manufacturer automatically cease to function within 24 hours of the introduction of the new camera

That's what the camera manufacturers and many photo reviewers tend to want us to believe

I have and use two of the first EF lenses brought out by Canon: 50mm f/1.8 and 135mm f/2.8 SF... I also use an EF 85mm f/1.8 lens which was introduced by Canon about the same time as your 100mm f/2 lens and I love my older 28-70mm f/2.8 Tokina ATX lens which is an oldie but, goodie! I do wish however, that Canon would bring out an upgrade of the 85mm f/1.8; keeping it relatively small and priced within reason but, with the inclusion of Image Stabilization...

BTW: nice shot of Ms. Daisy!

    Re: Good old things

Thanks, Richard. I find it amazing that some will chase megapixels when, for most people, 8 or 10MP is perfectly adequate. I still use not only the old 5D (whose color rendition I would put up against anything else), but the 10MP 40D. The primary reason I bought my used 70D was because I'm getting OCD about hummingbirds and there is more room for cropping from 20MP than 10. My favorite combination for people pictures remains the old 5D+EF 28-135mm IS USM, or the 100mm F2. The photo dealer in my hometown is probably the largest in Texas, and you can count on being able to pick up excellent little-used equipment for far less than new prices because of people wanting the latest and greatest. They had a 40D recently in excellent shape for $95. Those who know, know that is one of the best sorted-out cameras Canon has ever made. If mine wasn't in such good shape, I would have bought it, but I was there to get the 70D and got it for less than $600 and it was absolutely like new.

Tom, this is a really great portrait of your cat. I know from experience that cat portraits are easier said than done.
