    Pagoda

I'll call it a Pagoda for want of the proper term. There's a half metre or more space between the horizontal members but when I positioned myself at the right angle that became insignificant. C&C welcome.

    What a satisfying image.

I have tried viewing it with a small bit cropped of the bottom edge.(more or less a square format) It didn't spoil it but I am unsure if it was an improvement. The design is so strong no doubt several crops would work well.

    Well spotted, photographed and processed!

With scenes like these, the challenge comes in recognizing what they will look like as a 2-D image. Getting the shadows to fall just right can be a quite challenge too. You have definitely nailed this one.

I love this kind of photography. I always include some discord in the image however, just to break it up. That is only an opinion and does not take anything away from this excellent image.

I too, usually like patterns/designs with a little "discord". However in this case for some reason I felt it was not really necessary.

I totally agree. I suspect there is so much harmony in the repeating patterns that the "discord" would likely have resulted in a weaker image.

A powerful image. I don't think I would change anything--other than perhaps the name, since a form with nothing but straight lines and right angles doesn't suggest a pagoda to me.

Oh, I like that. Strength from sheer simplicity make for a great deal of impact. Well seen and processed.

Love this image. The shadows have sure added to the image to create a nice abstract.

    Re: Pagoda

Wow! Thank you everyone for so much positive feedback.

Paul, I played around with several different crops - and liked several of them - but settled on this because I felt it best preserved the sense of symmetry.

Manfred, the irony is that I have walked past this structure most days since the building was completed a year or so ago, and thought it was kind of odd and pointless. And then recently passed it at the right time of day to see the beautiful shadows. Now I think the designer / architect is brilliant.

Ole, I know what you mean about discord. The anomaly that breaks the pattern makes the pattern a picture. But if there is no discord in the scene ...

Dan, you're right. The word I was grasping for is pergola - if it can be called that.
