    Is this a Tachinid?

    Spotted a couple of days ago. I've not seen one before; it was large (approx 15mm) and I'd like to identify it please ... A search produced nothing definitive but going by the hairy body my guess is a Tachninid.

    These are tricky to identify and I'm not good with this whole group. You could have a look at Tachina fera.

    Thanks Geoff - looks close, and if so would be a rare visitor to these north eastern parts, but with the weather we've had of late, who knows?
