    Attack Of The ‘B’ Movie Monster aka A Macro Of A Monkey Face Grasshopper: Sony Alpha a68 ~ Tamron 90mm 272E Macro Lens ~ ISO 100 ~ Shutter Speed 1/4s ~ F/16 ~ Natural Light ~ Exposure Compensation 0.0

I’m really a Monkey Face Grasshopper so don’t be scared. I nibble on wild ginger leaves and other greenery and I enjoy the garden/temple I live in.

Monkey Face Grasshoppers have an intriguing face.

    Brian,

Does that lesson relate to head on shots only or also profile shots?

On the profile or even 45* off of dead on, the eyes are the focus area.

In that case, what did you focus on?

The general "rule" when photographing people and animals is that the eyes, especially the eye closest to the camera must be sharp.

Following the general rule i focused on the eyes but that left the front of the face just a touch soft.

In that case, I'm not sure what you meant in #3 where you wrote you did not focus on the eyes.

If you are saying you focused on the eye closest to the camera rather than trying to focus on both eyes, then this was not clear to me.

As every preacher soon learns 'what you say is rarely what they hear'.
What I said was: 'I learned my lesson, when shooting this species of grasshopper do not focus on the eyes.'

What I meant was: In this head on shot I focused on the eyes more or less equally when I should have been focusing on the lower face to get overall better focus,

Now that is much more clear.
