    Fireworks

Every summer Vancouver hosts an event called The Celebration of Light. This is an international fireworks competition. I was happy to be able to make it to one of the evenings, life has been crazy lately so I was glad to be out with my camera for a change. The evening I went Sweden was doing the show. Here is a sampling of the show. Any comments or critiques are welcomed.

Good set, Rita. I like the first shot as it seems to give a better sense of scale. And the 9th is a standout for detail and colour.

Fireworks over water always works for me, so nice series.
I agree #9 is really vibrant.

For one reason or another I have not been in Vancouver for the festival, I am glad you got to see and shoot it and must say I like the results!

    Re: Fireworks

Thanks for the comments all. This is probably my best set of fireworks images. Each time I have shot fireworks I have tried to fine tune the shutter speed to get what I want without having the whites blown out. This year I was happy with the results.

Trev, it really is worth seeing and experiencing. A few of us try and get to 2 of the nights but this year I was happy just to have made the 1.

Greg, that is my order of preference too.

Kay, thanks for your comments. I do agree that fireworks over water is the best setting. There is just something about the way the light reflects in the water.

It's 2 and 7 for me but a nice series overall. We have an annual competition on the West coast in Blackpool but I have never tried to photograph it.

Nice job Rita... I always like fireworks shots best when they have some terrestrial subjects included...

    Thank you John and Richard.

John, you should give it try. I don't know which I enjoy more the fireworks or trying to capture good images of them.

Great series, I've never had a lot of luck shooting fireworks (well not with a camera at least ).

VG series, Rita, I must say that No 9 stole the show for me, but I am a mere grasshopper.

Hi Brian, good memories I hope. English Bay is the perfect setting for this festival, on average there are somewhere around 500,000 people show up each night.

    Re: Fireworks

Bear Dale, it took some practice to get my settings right. The first few times I tried this I had lots of blown out images. Practice and persistence pays off
