    Wildlife

I was taking a rare trek through the underbrush and spotted this deer, it seemed to be stalking me, and had what appeared to be an uneasy gait. I thought perhaps its diseased or no longer afraid of people.

Afterward it walked across the path I was standing on and disappeared through the brush, I was probably standing in the deer's normal path and confused it by lingering too long.

Looks like the deer had a very interesting reaction! <chuckle> Good photos and the dialog is definitely interesting!

In the 2nd shot, standing in that position the deer looks for all the world like a kangaroo. No wonder the first European arrivals here described kangaroos as "giant hopping fawns".

I think that particular body language is universal.

I think you are right, John, that is one poorly deer. Just look at the ribs showing through, and I've no idea what those white blemishes on the head are.

Images are fine, but for me sad. (Of course, I might be mistaken).

    Hi Dave,

I got a few profile shots of the deer and also noticed the ribs showing through, I saw her again later and she had a young fawn with her, they were both hunkered down in the brush. We've had quite a dry spell around here but the foliage is lush. Thanks for commenting.

    David,

I sent the photo to the Department of Environmental Conservation and they responded within hours and said they would pass the information along to the rangers. They stated that there are two diseases that affect deer: bluetongue disease and Chronic Wasting Disease, the latter has not been in NYS for about ten years but they said that it is easily transferable from other states.
