The first selfie stick is older than you might think...
While noting that selfies are about as old as photography the use of a selfie stick has generally been thought of as a modern phenomenon, not so according to this article. All I can say that Mr Hogg has a lot to answer for...

I have one of those Polaroid SX-70 cameras that's got to be over thirty years old and it had the shutter button in the front of the camera, when I wanted to take a photo of myself I would use a long stick to click the shutter, I wonder if he is doing something similar.
