Backyard EOS
I have a neighbor who is really into astro-photography. He has a large telescope that he uses to scan the heavens. To tell you the truth, that leaves me a bit flat I have never been too interested in astronomy.
However, I thought I'd pass on a tip. He has been singing the praises of a software program called Backyard EOS and says that this is the best thing since sliced bread for backyard astronomers. There is a Nikon version called Backyard Nikon and these programs are downloadable and will cost about $35.00 USD.
Is this good, great or indifferent? I don't really know but, the programs might be of interest to some sky photographers...

Re: Backyard EOS
Thanks for the tip, I've tried deep space photography but as I live in the city it has been a challenge, there is a local club that goes on excursions where city lights don't affect your captures; I might try it out and join the group on a few trips.

Re: Backyard EOS
Like Richard, I'm not into astrophotography, but the software looks fascinating.
