Bailey has a new friend. Lucy has had a rather hard life up to now. She spent the first 10 years in terrible conditions. When I came into her life a year and a half ago; she was terribly matted and living in a small kennel with her mate. She was not being let outside, the kennel and room was full of feces. It is apparent that she was being struck by my brother's step grand-son. She still cowers when males attempt to pet her. Her mate was overly dominant toward her and would hide food. She was very under-weight. The grandson was feeding both dogs only when he felt like it.
When I arrived to care for my brother, I immediately got her out of those conditions. My wife was a god-send in many ways, she drove the 300 miles after a full day of work...and then spent 18 hours cleaning. After a short nap, she trimmed Lucy's mats out....I think that it was at this time that Lucy formed a strong bond with Judy. While down there, I took control of all the animals and there were many. My brother had many reptiles that I convinced my brother to surrender to a local pet store that specialized in such things. Buster, her mate, was adopted by a wonderful woman that has given him a stable home. I have had opportunity to see him and he is very happy in his new home.
Upon my brother's passing, Lucy has come to Minnesota and she now is entering a new chapter in her life. I was quite concerned about how Bailey would react to the situation, he has performed like a trooper. There were a few altercations in regards to food, both have resolved it. The amusing part is that she may be little smarter than Bailey, she quickly took over his favorite spots, she has claimed Judy's new $3000 sofa. Lucy now mimics Bailey's every move and has decided that she will sleep under the covers at night.
With all that she has gone through, Lucy has proven to be quite a pleasure. She loves going for drives in the car, walks on lead beautifully, shows no sign of aggression, and has very few accidents in the house.
Lucy has come far in the last month and may be getting a little spoiled
Now...Can only anyone guess the breed?
