    Mike,

Does On1 also support your site? I didn't notice that on the page to which you linked.

Theoretically yes, in practicality no ;-)

I had to make my blog post in a hurry before heading to work but I just added the footer manually (does anyone know how to do this automatically in WordPress?).

    Mike,

I think I wasn't clear. My question wasn't whether you had made money to date, but rather whether you stand to make money if people here follow your link to purchase the products you announce.

Maybe I am being too fussy about this, but this seems a little inappropriate on this site. Generally, when people post here about new products, they have no vested interest; they are just trying to inform each other. And when they post their own experiences with a product, they generally post the bad (if they experience anything bad) with the good. That's one reason why I take so seriously the comments people post here. Your posts may seem like that, but they are not same. You post news that uses the vendors' advertising text and links to your site, so if people here buy it on your site, you get money for your blog. Lots of people do this with blogs, but my own opinion is that you ought to make it clear in your post here as well as on the linked page that you have a vested interest in these products, albeit a very small one.

At any rate, I'll drop this now. If others are troubled by this, it's the moderators' role, not mine, to step in.

Thanks Dan. It's good that you keep an eye on things here.

The vendor info about ON1 today is all we have at this point; I have not seen a beta version although I do beta test for different developers. Once I get ahold of the final release of RAW 2019 I'll be able to create my own examples and impressions.

I've been educating people about graphics and digital imaging software since about 2001 and actually make personal use of anything I talk about (ie, no junk links). In times past I have experienced some plug-ins that were either not impressive or not fun to work with and I've long since forgotten about them, but lately that has not been the case with new releases. When I talk about Topaz Gigapixel, for instance, I am seriously and honestly impressed at what it can do and am really enjoying testing it with all of my different types of archived images.

    Mike,

I don't doubt that you use the software and am impressed by it. But you have chits on the table when you decide what to post, and you ought to let people know that. I trust advice I get from B&H, but if they posted here the advertising text from a new product with a link to their site to buy it, everyone would know that they will gain from a sale. You ought to make that apparent to people here because unlike when they see a posting from a known dealer, readers of this site won't know that you stand to gain from their buying in response to your positive reviews. They should.

Re: ON1 announces Photo RAW 2019

Hi, OK as the title of the post is ON1 announces Photo RAW 2019 I thought I would jump in. I have owned On1 software for around 5 years now and to be honest I am a bit miffed at there upgrade senario. If I upgrade it will cost me $79.99 + tax will make it close to the $100 mark, I watched the webinar live and to be honest I cannot see the worth in upgrading to the 2019 version at that price, On1 never seem to give there loyal customers any credit!! I mean for someone who is buying for the first time it is only going to cost them $20 more than customers like myself. I also purchased Skylums Luminar and they have sent an email advising of a big upgrade, to give an idea this from there email link Quote:- The new Luminar with Libraries will come this December.
This update is FREE!!! for all Luminar 2018 users.
There will be NO paid upgrade to Luminar 2019.
Instead, you will get the new tools and features as free updates to your current version of Luminar.
More AI-powered tools will come to Luminar soon.
We will get better in keeping you updated on what’s coming. There is more but just to show the difference between the two I just copied a small amount. $100 to FREE. I now what I will now go for. Of course this is JMO and others may not be of the same opinion and also both softwares offer different options to work on images, both companies keep saying there software is to rival Adobe yet I still have to keep the ever faithful Lightroom 6 to apply a simple thing like colour correction and camera profiles via the colorchecker passport. Russ.

On another forum there has been a similar discussion. ON1 replied to one poster as follows:

'If you purchase the Photo RAW 2018 version today, you will receive the new Photo RAW 2019 for free when it is released later this Fall (mid November)."

    Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks again, I will see about revising my sig and/or posting a footer.

BTW, one thing to consider is that in some cases I am able offer coupon codes where the developers themselves aren't promoting them (ie, Topaz). In a scenario like that we help each other.

Re: ON1 announces Photo RAW 2019

Please do post a footer or some other indication.

I don't mean to flog a dead horse, but I am not managing to explain what concerns me. The issue is not whether you have earned money yet, as opposed to later (post #3) or whether readers can save money by buying through your site (post #9). The issue is simply that you are a vendor and stand to earn money if people are prompted by your positive reviews to buy products via your site. People should know that because they may think that they should be more cautious in interpreting your positive reviews.

Virtually all the people who post here do not stand to gain from readers' responses to their posts. We have had a few newbies post who were clearly just looking for business, but I believe they were blocked. You are a hybrid: many of your posts are unrelated to products from which you benefit, but many (especially recently) are.

Right now your signature mentions nothing about this; it just advertises discount codes and "honest reviews of affiliate partner software." It would take only a few seconds to modify that.

    Enough harping from me.

I've been using ON1 pretty much since day one. I use it in combination with LR6(perpetual license version). I agree that their business model provides no benefit at all to existing/loyal customers. Also due to this model of charging for an upgrade every year there is no longer any financial incentive to using them versus the obvious alternative of the subscription model that Adobe has gone to with LR/Photoshop. And the LR/Photoshop option has a lot more functionality. ON1 was originally a cost effective 16bit editor as an alternative to Photoshop. It never did have all of the functionality of PS but was adequate and cost effective. Now however for essentially the same cost you can have the full functionality of the superior Adobe package.

Bottom line is that I for one am done with them. I've paid for every upgrade of ON1 to date but they've received the last dollar from me. I plan to continue to use the existing LR6/ON1 RAW 2018 combination until it is no longer viable then (assuming Adobe doesn't change the current business model) I will sign up for the Adobe subscription package.

In additional to the lack of financial benefit to using ON1, there is a frustration factor for long time users. They completely re-wrote the program with the first version that they titled "RAW" in 2017. And going on the third major rev since then and they still have not returned all of the functionality to the tools that were in the original program. Specifically the masking tools don't work as well as they did pre-2017. I've hung in this long in anticipation of they're getting things technically together(as a company). But it is evident that they simply aren't capable of doing so or it's not a priority for them. It is very frustrating.

And I'm definitely not affiliated in any way nor have any financial connections either direct or indirect with either company. Other than buying their products if that counts....

Thank you Dan for your comments. I see you do nature and wildlife photography and you mentioned masking as something you need to do.

Have you checked out the Topaz line of plug-ins or Topaz Studio? The advantages are:

    1) Once you buy they offer free upgrades for life

    2) Their software covers pretty much every creative and corrective function you'll ever need

    3) I am also affiliated with them but unlike ON1 I have a discount coupon (which Topaz is not promoting if you go directly to their site) to save you 15% up front off any of their products

    Free demos are available.

I think you have me confused with someone else. I don’t do wildlife photography, and I do relatively little landscape. I didn’t mention needing more software for masking.

Nonetheless, thanks for the suggestion. I looked at Topaz a while ago and decided I didn’t need it.

I think that was directed at me, Dan.
