Way to finish up week 52! The path scene doesn't inspire me but it is sharp and set up nicely. I favor the harbor shots! I love the water and clouds. Add boats and what's not to enjoy? <grin> Good images all!

I very much like the path scene in #60, with its undulating lines in various directions. Of the harbour shots, my favourite is the last one. You were at eye level with the boats.

With the path scene, I could see some potential in the curving lines of the path and winter wheat when those people came along so I thought it has to be now. Part of my thinking was, once again, looking for scenes to use in the next local history society calendar but wanting something which wasn't a nautical based theme. Ideally I would have preferred a better sky and there was a little bit of darkening after those people had passed; but I considered that having them there was more important to the image.

There is a bit of spare space to the left and top but after considering a few options I though this was the best position for that tree.

With the last of the boat images I was standing on the rocks which are just hidden in the 'Glimpse of harbour' scene but facing to the left. After waiting a few minutes for them to arrange themselves into a suitable grouping I realised this was as good as it was going to get.

Week 52 - Out of season flowers. Christmas is usually fairly quiet around here but countless hordes arrive between Christmas and New Year so I tend to keep out of the way for a week or two. So I had a look around my garden where there are still many flowers in bloom; both late and very early flowerings. There are even daffodils in bud!

Ideally, it is best to cut these difficult subjects and take them inside for some carefully controlled shots with an arranged background. However, to finish off this year, I had a go at photographing them where they were growing in natural light; but avoiding direct sun.

Geoff, an interesting set of photos. My favourite of these in situ photos is the quince. The contrast between the flower colour and the bare branches and completely out of focus background works very well.

Is the quince flowering particularly early? I've never seen a quince tree so have no idea. But, with daffodils in bud, you presumably have been having a very mild autumn and winter?

Quince shrubs tend to flower mostly in the spring, Bruce, but some early flowers can appear from January onwards. Last year a flock of House Sparrows nibbled off most of the early buds but it did flower again and produced a few of the apple like quince fruit. It is growing with the winter Jasmine intertwining and producing a stunning effect for these dark short winter days.

I did check out several options of flower arrangements to find one where there was a single flower plus buds all facing in the required direction.

We had a little bit of cooler, very wet and windy weather so the current spell of calm and relatively mild weather must seem to be spring like to many plants. Daytime temperatures are around 10 degrees C and currently no overnight frost here.

Hi Geoff - A nice finish to 2018. I had Calendula in the garden this year for the first time. It is certainly a busy but colorful plant. My daughter wanted the flower heads for her homemade lotion.
I haven't seen Quince since my childhood spent on Grandmother's farm. Lovely picture.
Well done merge of the Jasmine. Beautiful yellow color.
Add in the Iris and the flower that begins with "T" and I'd say you are blessed to have flowers blooming this time of year. It must be very mild weather in your area currently!

On New Year's Day I kept well clear of the busy town centre and slipped off to a quiet bit of woodland for a few photos of flowers and fungi.

I was thinking about using this as the start of my 2019 project but eventually decided to put everything into a wildlife thread and link it to a wildlife site; then wait for another scene to start my project.

While photographing some fungi one of the semi wild ponies which graze there popped his head over the fence to say hello and I was tempted to take a photo but everything was set up for macro so I didn't bother. After returning home, I wished I had done the changes and taken a shot. But there will probably be another chance of the same scene before long.
