ID requested: sighted on North Uist coast
I thought it was a herring gull when I fired, but it's not! Location is coastal cliff, north of North Uist. The RSPB identification chart did not help, but I'm sure at least one CIC member can .

Looks like a Lapwing. The viewpoint is unusual, but the outline of those wings is very distinctive. You can also just about make out the crest on the top of the head.

John, thanks for this. There were quite a lot of lapwings in the vicinity so that would make it a strong contender, but I had a feeing it was too large for that to be the ID.(but fact/reality always trumps 'feeling').

The tail is a give away as well. I agree, it looks like a Lapwing. It's behaviour would have given you a clue. Lapwings are very agile in the air and flit about just for the fun of it with a very piercing shrill call.
