My guess would be one of the 'hoppers' just going by the head and antennae (Cicadellidae) but I struggle with the UK species, never mind getting exotic.

I tried a bit of web surfing but got nowhere. I'll look at your suggestion

I thought it was a spider at first. Certainly the silk(?) looks like a web from a distance but up close it seems to be broken off bits laid out as a web for camouflage?

Geoff, All of the Cicadellidae I pull up have very discernable wings. I can't see any wings in my shot. I'm certainly no expert but to my eyes I'm looking at a tiny caterpillar like creature with a long silky beard on the back end.

It could be one of the nymph stages of a bug, Brian. They usually have 4 or 5 recognisable stages which are totally unlike the adult forms and are wingless until the final stage where wings slowly emerge. But I certainly can't place this creature. Possibly one of the Miridae but most of them seem to have obvious antennae even in the larval forms.

He, or she certainly is a challenge.
