    Gerald - the human visual system is keyed to looking at the brightest or highest contrast areas of an image. If these are not the subject or centre of interest, then our eyes will wander over to those parts of the image and away from the subject. That happens in both of these shots, especially the second one. The bright areas of background material are quite distracting and take away from an otherwise well thought out and taken image.

    That much bright can also affect the exposure as the camera's metering system will underexpose in order to capture the bright spot well.

    If that area is cropped out, look at the difference in the impact of your shot.

    I really like the shot and agree with Manfred. Piggy-backing on his comment, I might suggest reducing the brightness of her left hand just a TAD,,,
