Picked up a Fujifilm X-T3 on launch day as an upgrade on my trusty old X-T1 and have been out and about with it a few times getting to grips with its quirks. I'm having to shoot jpegs at the moment as Adobe hasn't updated Lr or ACR yet but to be honest with the Fuji sims being so good its not a major hardship.

Roker Pier - this structure is the (new) entrance to a passage way that allows visitors to walk through the pier and come up inside the lighthouse. Taken on the way to work one morning last week.



I'm out every night after work with the dog and more often than not I have a camera slung over my shoulder - recently that has been the new one which got me this shot of the River Tyne from South Shields. I deliberately shuffled side-to-side to get a bit of flare which is always a bit odd from the X-Trans sensor.



Got a call from some friends a few days ago which ended up with us taking a drive inland to Sycamore Gap on the Roman Wall for some night shooting. Now we had hoped to catch the aurora which has been active this week but typically never saw a hint of it. I did however manage to position myself close to the tree which got the Milky Way overhead and by taking ten shots stitched together this. Now its far from perfect but I'm kinda proud of what I managed shooting with a new camera limited to jpegs, in the pitch dark and not being the best at processing for auto work.

Its made up of ten images which were very roughly framed - five with sky and five with a bit more land - in the pitch black using blind luck and a fair old overlap as the widest lens I has was a 12mm that only gave 3/4 of the tree.

Three great images!

I'm a bit puzzled by the comment about flare and the Trans-X sensor. I would have thought flare more of an internal reflection from the lens elements issue, although reflections of the sensor would contribute to that as well.

I had read a while back that the patterned flare when you have a point of light off centre was something to do with the X-Trans sensor - I've just searched the link out and it has been updated to say that its something to do with the short flange distance on mirrorless bodies. It is different to lens flare and is a bit love/hate though I kind of like it.

For an image that is 10 frames stitched that were shot "....with a new camera limited to jpegs, in the pitch dark....", that's pretty good going.

Thanks. I didn't know whether you meant stitched as in panoramas or some sort of stacking. a very nice image.

Thanks for the links Robin. A lot of what is written in the article makes sense except the author misses one very important consideration; why are the dots predominantly red rather than something else? Somehow specific wavelengths appear to be affected but others not.
