    Snowy Owls in Flight

I was recently going through some files and edited a couple of images that I hadn't taken time to work on previously.

    Nikon D500 w/AF-S 80-400mm

    1) It was difficult to get the snow to show in the photo.

    2) I like this one. Very dynamic position on the bird.

    3) And a habitat shot. I don't do enough of these.

I don't think the snow is that important to convey the scene captured, however either you processed or shot with the intention of a high key shot (correct me if I'm wrong) but that is how the image looks to me. The second one is a winner to me.

number two has the most energy and to my eyes the better bg. With such an abundance of m uted colors and tones the eyes rivet my attention. Beautiful.

The scene as shot had very low DR. I increased the contrast significantly in order to pull out the bird and in an attempt to pull out individual snowflakes. I'm of a mind to re-process it closer to the actual conditions which would indeed result in an even more high key image.

They do that, don't they? The only splash of color in near monochrome conditions.

The 2nd is a beauty. Colours, composition, action. Good work.

Wonderful, Dan. I would be interested to see the results of the reprocessing, if you get around to it.

Since enquiring minds want to know...

The light box can be used to toggle back and forth for comparison.

    1) As first posted. Dramatically reduced highlights and lifted WP in an effort to reveal the snow.

    2) Re-processed to simply set white and black points and sharpened.
