Image going from 16 Bit to 8 Bit in ACR
Most times I take a RAW file into DXO, save it as a DNG and them open it in Photoshop (which means, as a DNG, it automatically opens in ACR). Sometimes I'll skip the DXO option and just open it directly in Photoshop (the same rule apples re ACR) as a .cr2 (Canon) or a .rw2 (Panasonic).
Up to this point the image is showing as a 16 bit.
Fine. So far, so good.
But, ...............
Whenever it opens up in ACR it defaults to 8 Bit.
Why is this happening and what can I do about it?
It actually doesn't make much difference to me, but I am just frustrated that I don't know what is happening and I don't think it should be happening.

Donald,
When you open the DNG in camera raw at the bottom there is a link that details your working space, 8bit, pixel dimensions etc
Click on it and in the dialogue box change it from 8 to 16 bit and press OK
Now all subsequent DNG files should open in 16 bit

Ah ha. So simple when you know how.
It was in that dialogue box I could see that it was going to 8 bit. I never knew I could click on it and change it.
Peter, you are my hero for today!
