A volcanic island in a pink sea, mist rising above the horizon. Great seascape, Grahame

    Re: Alien or everyday item?

Thank you John, Tom and Greg.

I had been experimenting with lighting to give me a coloured background for a shot I hope to attempt soon which will be a mosquito emerging from its pupal case on the surface of water.

The above image is the pointed end of a masonry nail emerging roughly 2 to 3mm from the surface of water in a white china bowl. Behind the bowl is just an A4 sheet of coloured paper.

Lighting used were two SBR-200s fitted to the front of the lens to illuminate the subject and one other flash aimed at the coloured paper to reflect the colour onto the water. Lots of experimentation in light angles and balancing of the flash powers were tried to achieve what I hoped would give an even colour and maximum subject reflection, as this one.

    Alien or everyday item?

The dark pink area is the nail shank under water which would not be seen if the subject was simply floating.
