Climbing Monk. C&C Welcome

Hi, going forward on my photography venture I stopped and clicked another shot. Can you please review it and let me know what exactly is missing for it to make it much better?


Please provide your views and suggestion with composition, frame, crops.

Not really fond of any of them, I think it would work best if the partially shot monk were removed. Nicely exposed though.

Or ideally, if the top left partial monk was shown in full view; which would give a bit more context to the scene. As it is, I would agree with a tighter crop, possibly 4 x 5 ratio or square?

It depends what story you want to tell. The flowing robe on the monk at the top suggests speed. With him in the frame the main subject appears to be hurrying to catch up. If you remove the upper monk then the subject simply appears to be struggling to climb the steps. Either way, I think this scene would be better with a portrait orientation to show more of the steps already climbed if you have them.

Crisp and great colors, exposure is on target,however , as suggested a crop of the partial figure would aid in the composition of a well captured subject.

Raj - I think your crop #1 is very close. The framing works, but I think a bit more very subtle PP work will get you there, just to balance out the image itself.

The young monk on the right is the subject, but because of the lighting conditions, the top left with the other young monk running up the stairs offers up too much competition. Downplay the top left (darken up the area) and emphasize the one on the right. You might want to downplay the walls a bit too. Perhaps darkening the wall in the top left hand corner might be worth considering too; something I did not do in my version.

I love the image. However, I think that eliminating the portion of the monk and his robes at the top actually give the image more energy. Cloning out the robe and feet leaves a void "waiting: for the young monk to reach.

However, as with many images, there are many different ways to present it and one way is not necessarily better than the other. It was a well captured image in every respect...
