Project 52: Week 46, Early winter evening at Glentrool

Glentrool is a wooded area in the heart of the Galloway hills in South West Scotland. The greater area includes a National Dark Park, an area free from from light pollution. However, it was Glentrool itself and daylight that were the focus of the Week 46 excursion. It ended up being somewhat of a "lemonade from lemons" day however. A host of little things came together and left us running more than an hour late in leaving home. Add that I wrongly estimated the journey time as being around that for the similar distance trip from home to the wildfowl reserve at Caerlaverock that I have visited several times and which is also in the south west, and there were less than 3 hours of shooting time left when we eventually got there.

Or thought we had ... the various guides were not exactly on the mark. One took us to a car park allegedly next to the start of a path to Loch Trool but no path was evident. We eventually did find the real car park, about 2 miles away, but then took the wrong fork ...

Bottom line is that 3 of the 4 intended sites were missed, and there were only about 30 minutes of usable light at the 4th, which was the loch itself.

That's the lemons dealt with. The lemonade was that the lowering sun was creating a lovely light on the bare birch trees when retracing my steps on the "wrong fork". The first four were taken there.

The first two are beautiful with the reflections from the water and the sharp and clear landscapes.The fourth one of the three birch trees is lovely because of the blends of color and the backdrop of evergreens. I'm drawn back to the third one as well. Gosh.... all a delight..... AND then you saved the best(#5) for the last entry, in my opinion. This is beautiful stuff that you were able to visit!
