Anza Borrego Exploration Trip

These photos were taken on an Exploration trip to the Anza Borrego Desert for my wife's birthday. I captured these with my A7iii, Rokinon 14mm F2.8. I know there are lots of photo to review but this was a very fun trip and I was able to test myself with the manual lens and lots of different scnery. As always C&C is welcomed.

My thoughts on further editing the photos, this will be a running list as I continue to look at the photos.

#3 & #4 could use a more 16:9 crop to them

#11 I wasn't sure if I wanted to try to remove the halo around the moon, it was there that night and it looked cool, but I'm finding it distracting in the photo, thought about removing it?

With the first image, your foreground is getting out of focus towards the bottom right corner so I wonder about a slight crop from the bottom and right side?

#2 is OK but I think I might try losing a bit of foreground.

The others look OK to me, although with #9 you have missed out her feet so I wonder about cropping even closer so as to look like a deliberate head and shoulders type of portrait? Perhaps just show her hand and lose everything below that?

The Anza Borego had a lot to offer photographers...

Salvation Mountain, in the Anza Borego Desert is a standout to illustrate what damage the hand of man can do in what some folks think is a righteous cause.

To assist your focusing with this lens I suggest getting to learn and rely upon the distance markings on the barrel. This is especially useful if wanting your foregrounds in focus and sharp.

As an example, 14mm @ f/5.6 focussed at 2 m is going to give from approx 0.7 m to infinity so smaller apertures are going to give even more.

Whilst the lens markings are well known for their inaccuracy on this lens, experimenting with your own copy will give you good confidence. This method is also very useful for focusing in poor light.

In terms of photography for photography's sake

I think I understand what you're saying here. I'm not the kind of person who travels to take a picture but rather I take pictures of my travels. I not trying to poop on those that can travel for a photo I just cant swing it.

The Anza Borrego had a lot to offer photographers...

This was our first trip to the area, we will definitely be back. Normally we prefer to head to Joshua Tree but I'm nursing an injury and have to keep the temptatin of rock climbing at a minimum so Off to Anza it is.

As for C&C; I suggest that you think about the Apertures that you are choosing.

In the example images above, to pull those very fast Shutter Speeds, at ISO 100, you must have been close to F/2.8, or at F/2.8.

In these cases, you certainly are not extracting the optimum Image Quality from that Lens.

My copy of that Lens a “great” optic at F/6.3 ~ F/8.

you are correct 99% of the shots were at f2.8. This was the first trip/shoot I used that lens. I am planning to use that lens a ton more this winter season. I will definatly have to experiment withthe f6.3-8 range. Thanks for the tips and taking the time for C&C.
