Very Slow Shutter Speed Live Cricket Shot: As in THIRTY seconds

Tomorrow I may post the third shot in the series. Shot 1 was shot at 2.5s. This was shot at 30 seconds and if I get the third shot posted it was shot at 15 seconds.

I take it the cricket isn't very active, otherwise it would be risky to use such a slow shutter speed?

That is the challenge. You just never know how things will turn out.

Brian - usually there is a compositional reason to take a long exposure shot. I'm trying to understand why it is important to do here. The first image you posted is stronger than this one because the lighting is better.

A long exposure shot is actually not all that challenging to do when the subject is stationary. A reasonably steady tripod that isn't disturbed is all it takes and in this case, the subject looks like it wasn't going anywhere in a hurry.

I like it. You never know what the wild animal is going to do . all you can do is press the shutter release and hold your breath. Looks like fun.
