    Getting hooked.....

A couple of macro stacks....just messing around with this so far. The second could use a lot of work. Isolate the one seed head to eliminate the distraction of the other seed head on the left. Needs a better background. I clearly need to learn control of the light; both images shot in natural light. But I had fun and am becoming increasingly fascinated with getting close.

Thanks for looking, feel free to offer advice, modify or mangle!

Fungi, and many flowers, are tricky subjects, Andrew.

Your uneven lighting is a bit of a problem in the first image, but that is a potential natural difficulty which is often encountered. Ideally, under these situations I try to create a bit of shadow using a light shield, which can be my own body; or use flash, to even out the light levels.

The second one is OK but possibly cropped just a fraction on the tight side.

However, having said all that, your focus is good and these are acceptable images.

    Beware, it's addictive.

I agree with Geoff: the cropping is much too tight in the second image. Otherwise, it's an interesting image.

Very nice Andrew. In the field I often use a shoot thru umbrella, easy to set up for blocking/diffusing the 'harshish' light iff needed.

+1. It can even go into the 'extreme'...

When it comes time to get up close and personal with the spider in the bottom left of the first shot think Tamron 90 mm macro lens.

I was thinking it is probably one of the Pardosa species, Brian; but they are a tricky family even when you do get really close.

I'll bet they are. And isn't that the fun part.

    Re: Getting hooked.....

Thanks to all for the comments. On the first image the spider just happened to wander into the frame as I was shooting; it wasn't intended as the subject. To the comment that the lighting is uneven ......that was actually something that I liked about the image. But then my sense of what is technically correct, or aesthetically correct for that matter, has a long way to go. I'm going to shoot the second one again.....along with other weeds I have collected .......and explore the possibilities.
