M’Lady is way too good for and too me. As an early Christmas present I just received Capture 1 Pro Sony V12.

It comes with lots of new bells and whistles. The one I was just experimenting with is luminosity masking. The first shot with the luminosity mask. The second shot was done in V11. When someone like me can get a noticeable improvement first time out the gate… it’s a good sign.

As always, shot and processed in our garden/temple somewhere in the Philippines.

Two cracking images Brian - that first one is way above what you were producing a year ago (and they were not bad at all!).

Glad you are enjoying the luminosity masking feature - I have it in another couple of editors so there was nothing in the V12 upgrade to attract me.

My brain isn't what it once was. One editor is all I can handle. One camera, one lens, one editor and most definitely only one lady

What exactly did you do? Once you created the luminosity mask, what edit did you do to the unmasked area? The second one looks like it was generally darkened, but I can't see which areas were treated differently.

the second one was the first shot. In the first one I used the luminosity mask to isolate the web and make it stand out more.

I see. Now that you explain, I can see it. It brightened other areas of similar luminosity too. Overall, a better image, IMHO

C1 has 3 new masking abilities one allows you to change the shape from oval to round and the other is a rastor(sic).
You see it exactly right. it allows you to pick out common luminosity areas.
