Hi Sandy,

I know that the front and sides of the building are all brick, I read about the history of the building and it was stated that the artist (Derek Michael Besant) utilized "trompe l'oeil" style which was popularized art technique meaning to deceive the eye, so any surface could be used. Thanks for commenting.

This is rather like pavement artists who fool the eye into thinking there is a ladder going into a crater, or there is a swimming pool. I have seen some great examples on the web, but they have to be viewed from the right direction for them to work best.

This particular building though is very unusual. Whereas I can see the door has been painted and can accept that the walls have been painted, my brain has real difficulty with the partly covered windows so I am much more fooled by them!

You are correct that angle of view and distance as well helps make the effect what it is, the very practice of art in general, especially oil painting, relies on this tricking of the eye. When you view an oil painting at close range you see the dabs, textures, and mixtures of hues which were used to make fine details of the skin, hair, and lace of a portrait. Thanks for viewing.

Hi John - It would be a treat to be able to see live performances. Our little town 'rolls up the sidewalks' by 21:00. LOL
I like your image but I do think as you suggested that the tones may need a little bit of enhancement? :)

John, I like the concept, the angles, the separation of every column or flagpole on the left, the reflection. But the execution seems either noisey or lacking sharpness, which is not your normal approach.

I shot a series of 50 images within 15 minutes and not one of them included any people, this is a rarity for me but I was concentrating more on architecture, lights, and colors in lowlight conditions while handholding the camera. Comments welcome.

This is definitely one of your stronger recent shots.

These street shots are challenging to do at the best of times as random things seem to happen at the wrong moment, in my experience, and ruin the shot. You have avoided these in this shot.

The single car with its brake lights and tail lights on draw the viewer into the scene and past the larger parked are in the foreground. The care that is pulling out from the side blocks the viewer from looking down the sidewalk and pulling the eyes away from the main scene.

Well executed and processed image.
