Tourist or Street 2: Sparkle City

I plan to fill this thread with images that could be classified as either Tourist or Street photography, my first selection is below. I printed this on Epson glossy paper 8.5" x 11.0".

I would prefer it if the two figures bottom left had not been cut in half
    Sorry

Yes John, agree with Roy about the half people, crop them or clone them out would help. Also, the image looks to be leaning to the right a little so again a straighten crop would help, Lovely sky !

It seems to me that this thread would get more comments on the nature and architecture forum, since it isn't about techniques of printing.

I think the second one has real potential, but IMHO, it could benefit from some editing. The two areas that immediately draw the eye are the very bright planking in the middle and, to a lesser degree, the bright light at the top right. The people don't stand out at all.

If it were mine, I'd back off the contrast or clarity a bit. Then I would crop the top, burn the distracting light areas, and dodge the second person.

I can't do the first, of course, but a quick try at the others gives this:

Tourist or Street 2: Sparkle City

Re the first: I thing "street photography" means whatever people want it to mean, but the way that term is usually used, I wouldn't classify the first as street photography. Usually, street photography isn't photography of a street; it's candid photography of what's on a street, usually what people are doing on the street. The people in this shot are almost inconspicuous. Not that this says anything is wrong with the shot, just that I would consider it a different genre.

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for comments and suggestions, very helpful. I agree about the comments on Street Photography, only hinting at how closely tourist/street can be and the second probably wouldn't qualify as street as it was taken under somewhat controlled conditions for the skyline, I recomposed to include the two individuals for this particular shot thinking why not include denizens of the night.

I don't really feel that way, she was sorry she intruded into the shot but I like it better with her in it.

John, I like the way Street Noir 11 is done. The selective bright lights are very well done to my mind. The 'tourists' are merely incidental to me.
    Cheers Ole

Hi John - Interesting series. I enjoy looking at your work and learning about what sort of paper you use for printing. Thank you!

    Hi Sandy,

Thanks for commenting, I just got in a supply of Baryta and Platine that was discounted from a moving sale so more mixes in the future.

Decent photo paper does have a cost! I'm quickly finding that out.

I usually get my paper from a local art store and they have frequent discounts on paper, I've compared to Amazon pricing and the cost is usually similar, difference is being able to walk in the store and waiting for delivery.

And another plus to your scheme is that the product wouldn't have bent corners, etc. from shipping.

Re: Tourist or Street 2: Brickell Village

I wasn't planning to print, just process and analyze but then decided to go ahead, Canson PhotoSatin 8.5" x 11.0". This was shot from a mall atrium, just liked the view of the city.
