    Luminar 3

    Hi all,

Recently I acquired a license for Luminar 3, the latest one. I feel like there's a lot in there I haven't discovered yet and I was wondering if any of you have used it and if there's any tips you might have for it? It's a fairly unknown piece of software but it's become a nice sidekick for me next to Lightroom.

I'd love to hear if you have tips for it!

    Thanks,
    M.

Luminar seems to be getting some good press of late, but I am not sure what benefit it adds if you are already using Lightroom and its catalog.

However, I can see it becoming an attractive option for people who do not want to be tied in to Adobe's subscription model but are prepared to pay for upgrades while the software is improved and expanded.

    A current (2019) review - https://shotkit.com/best-alternative-to-lightroom/

The site also offers a $10 discount coupon.

I got it in addition to Lightroom- it has a bit more creative options, while Lightroom is very good for the "regular" editing. I'm mostly just curious to see what others have done with it, and what kind of "secrets" this software has to offer. I gather you don't have experience with it?

No, I have never used Luminar but I think it could be attractive for my fellow hobbyists in our local camera club.

    Re: Luminar 3

I bought Luminar 2018 a few months ago and I am slowly improving my skills with this photo editing software. Skylum sent me Luminar 3 for free recently but I had to upgrade my computer to use it. I added 8gb of RAM making 16 in total,a SSD and a 2gb video card. My computer is much faster now, however Luminar 3 still freezes on occasion. Looking on the Luminar 3 forum it seems there are many people experiencing problems. Updates are supposedly coming from Skylum to fix issues. At the moment I couldn't recommend Luminar 3, however Luminar 2018 seems to be an alternative to Lightroom.

I acquired Luminar this winter as part of a 5-Day Deal, but hadn't done much with it. I watched this Fstopper video on it this morning though, and now I am inclined to spend some time learning my way around it. The reviewer seemed quite impressed with its intelligence, if not the transparency of its workings.

I play with it now and then but have not gone totally over to it just yet. May move over when my skills improve.

There is a version without the catalog which works much faster called Luminar Flex. A purchased licence with get you both the regular and this lighter version.

I downloaded the trial version of Luminar 3. I found that it was hard to start using it. The Help facility told you all the things it could do but I had difficulty in finding how to do them. I ended up removing it.
