Withdrawing from SmugMug - be careful

I recently decided that I really am not making good use of my SmugMug site, and I think that Adobe Portfolio will be good enough for me.
However, I'd just paid for another year's subscription, so what I wanted to do was to cancel the recurring direct debit. In fact, I ended up cancelling the account, with the result that everything disappeared, including my login.
Fortunately, SmugMug were able to reactivate my account, and I don't think that I lost anything, though with the caveat that they had recovered "everything the system allows".
Anyway, it turns out that you can't do what I wanted - you can't cancel the recurring payment. All you can do is to cancel the account, as I inadvertently did.

Obviously, my mistake, but to be forewarned is to be forearmed.

    So be careful!

    Dave,

SmugMug was one of the online portfolios that I considered some years ago but ended up using 500px, which when the renewal came around and I decided I didn't need all that the Pro package offered, it simply dropped back to a free account, that I still have, (although don't use that much).

In terms of assistance and customer care I have to highlight and praise Salford, Manchester UK based Photium. I have a number of sites with them, that I have used for my different portfolios and genres and even set up the local photo club with an account for it. Not as flexible as the paid for accounts with SmugMug or 500px, and not free, but its not often these days that you get absolutely scintillating customer care. Really on the ball and you can choose how quickly you need a response on any question. I have been pleasantly surprised in some cases to receive a response within a few hours, even at the weekend. I would strongly recommend them for that alone.

Hi David, I have been playing a bit with adobe portfolio and have found that it isn't all that intuitive. However, I did come across this video https://youtu.be/aBTygjJojyU which helped greatly. Once you get the idea of how it works then it is really quit simple.
Good luck with it and have fun.

Thanks for that, Rita. I've also signed up for a free month with LinkedIn training (used to be Lynda.com) and just started their Portfolio course, which looks pretty good (and starts with the absolute basics!)
