    Blood Moon

We had cold, clear skies for the eclipse last night. I took 90 photos of the event, but the very thought of compiling a series led me to concentrate on one, taken just before totality, and I tried to make it as close to what I saw as I could:

I think you should be pleased with your work, Tom; a real good one.

Very effective image Tom. It works very well.

At least you had the opportunity to see it. I had hoped to get out, but with the tail end of the biggest winter storm of the year passing through the area meant 100% cloud cover, so nothing to see.

Even if it had been clear, I'm not sure I would have braved heading out temperatures of -27C / -17F with winds of 40 - 50 km/hr / 25 - 30 mph. Just to plain miserable for night time photography over the past few days.

Thanks, Dave and Manfred. Manfred, I don't think I could stand such temperatures these days, though back in the '50s when I was stationed in what was then West-Germany, I used to volunteer on snowy days to walk the motor pool perimeter. Last night, we got chilled out on the back porch and it was only in the +30F range in Austin.

A very nice image. I’d wish I could get out of bed on time. As I understand it we had perfect whether for it.

Great shot Tom... I planned attempt to shoot the blood moon over the San Diego Skyline. Unfortunately, much like Manfred, Mother Nature did not agree with my plans. Cloud cover obscured the moon to a point where it was not worth shooting! However, unlike Manfred, the temperature was not very low.

Great shot, Tom. I like the stars in there too. I really seems 3-D.

Thanks, Greg. I kept the crop a bit wide hoping the stars would give a sense of depth and was pleased that it seems to have done so.
