    Auto iso setting on fuji X100f

    I find the need to use the auto iso feature as I move around laneways in Melbourne. It simply is not working. It defaults to the highest setting every time. It is not critical but it is a nice feature to have when needed. Any suggestions.

    Olle all I can think of is that you may have your minimum shutter speed in auto ISO set way too high for the available light?

    Re: Auto iso setting on fuji X100f

    Ole,

    Have you checked your minimum speed settings as mentioned already and these may be specific to which of AUTO1/2 & 3 modes your have selected?

    From page 100 of the downloaded manual ........................

    Auto iso setting on fuji X100f

    Further info found .................................

    a) A general description of the cameras Auto ISO function from an article;

    "ISO Auto Setting: Lets you adjust the behavior of Auto ISO. This is an important setting, and the X100F gives you the ability to set up to three different Auto ISO defaults that you can select depending upon the occasion. “Default Sensitivity” is the ISO that the X100F will attempt to use. It will only use a higher ISO if your scene is dark enough that your shutter speed has reached the “Min Shutter Speed” value you set. “Max Sensitivity” is the highest ISO value that the X100F will use, no matter what. If you’re taking pictures in such a dark scene that your Max Sensitivity and Min Shutter Speed values have already been reached, the X100F will use longer shutter speeds rather than increase ISO any further.

    b) A reference to general ISO adjustment;

    "ISO Setting Dial: Pull up on the shutter speed setting dial, then rotate to change your ISO. I find that this takes some getting used to, and you may prefer to set ISO via the front command dial (as mentioned above, by changing “ISO Dial Setting” to “Command” in the X100F’s Set Up menu, then setting ISO to “A” on the dial)."

    c) This may or not be applicable to what you are experiencing but I include it because you did not mention if the actual pictures taken were at the Max ISO values set.

    It appears there is a reported condition with this model and some others in that if you have 'Continuous AF mode' selected and 'Auto ISO' selected when looking into the EVF the 'highest ISO limit' is shown and the image is also over exposed in the EVF view in accordance with this. On pressing the shutter 1/2 way all is then normal and the 'camera chosen' ISO value is shown with the correct exposure.

    Thank you Charles, Dave and Grahame. I have checked the minimum speed. I have a vague recollection of having used this feature succesfully before. I have just recently uploaded new filmware for my Fuji.

    Charles, I think I need to ask fujix forum.

    Ole,

    If you point the camera at a reasonably well lit daylight scene outside and take the shot, in Aperture Priority, in Auto ISO, at f/11 what are the settings for Speed and ISO of the taken image?

    Grame, 1/60sec at iso 500. Nothing is shown on the camera to indicate what it is doing. I had to import into LR to get the information.

    So assuming the image taken was exposed as expected it appears 'Auto ISO' worked OK this time. It has dropped the speed to the 'Minimum Shutter Speed" (1/60) as must be set in ISO bank 1,2 or 3 that you have selected and then raised the ISO to achieve correct exposure.

    Does the 'chosen' ISO setting (when in Auto ISO) not show when the button is half pressed prior to taking the shot, there are mentions that it should unless 'continuous focus' is selected.

    I did come across a comment somewhere, but can't find it now, that mentioned the coupling of the AFL/AEL function having some affect on whether the max or chosen ISO was shown in the viewfinder. (but it was a bit sketchy).

    Nothing is shown when shutter is half pressed. I know now that the auto feature does work. It would be nice, however, to know what the camera is doing.

    This phenomena is discussed here Ole. https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4172909

    Edit : Added

    Here's some more useful info on it; https://www.fujixseries.com/forums/t...ehaving-weird/

    look at the comment in this thread by Rob Follet to the ops question but it certainly appears there's some bugs around the operation of Auto ISO.
