    Frost patterns

I have childhood memories of frost patterns on the single-glazed windows in the house I grew up in. In the modern world with double (or even triple) glazed, argon-filled low-E windows, these are almost things of the past. However when the seal on these windows goes and moisture enters, we still see them from time to time.

I like it a lot. I well remember such pattern on the inside of my bedroom window in the '60's. I used to put newspaper between my blankets. Nowadays I get cold in bed even with central heating and double glazing. Old age....

Yes I remember window frost behind the curtains; even in the UK 'soft south'

At one time, the cold stopped at my skin but now it gets right into my bones!

And what about those chilblains from warming your feet by the only fire in the house!

It is a lovely shot by the way, Manfred. The lighting truly brings out the intracacies of the frost.

High contrast works well to delineate the structure

I love it. Stunned by the organic nature of the growth of the crystals. One might think you are looking at a highly stylized forest. I am curious as to how this image was accomplished.

Andrew - this is the original pattern. I cropped it to give the geometry you see in the image. I selected the ice crystals and used a curves adjustment layer to darken all of the area other than the ice crystal so that they pop out. I then converted to B&W.

That's nice Manfred. I prefer it to the first image, particularly since you you have retained the translucency in the surround. The subtlety of the colours is also attractive.
