    Snow Ride

After a day of continuous snow the bicycle in the background was perfectly framed by two snow covered shrubs in our back garden.

Nice idea--consider whether or not your concept would be stronger zooming in on the bike.

Yes, I had to look hard to find that bike.

Maybe crop just a little from the top and a similar amount from the right side? Sill show the top of the left side bush though.

Nice effort, agree with the others that the bike is only a minor element as presented.

Thanks for suggestion. I am not anxious to crop the bushes but don't see a problem loosing some sky. I will try it.

Thanks Judith. I would have the bike to be more prominent. I was some what restrained in choosing a position to shoot from. I was shooting through a sliding door, opened about 6" while my dog was trying desperately to force her was past my leg. I really should have tried stepping back and using a longer lens and tried lens compression. Last night I decided to try that this morning; it had snowed most of yesterday so I felt sure I would have had good snow cover. However this morning the snow cover was almost all gone. I am really not keen on cropping the image as my concept was to show the bike framed by the two snow covered trees. Having lost the opportunity to repeat the shot, I must try cropping or praying for more snow!

I have accepted Geoff's suggestion and cropped some from the top and right side which makes the bike slightly larger.

That looks like a more concentrated and pleasing composition to me, Joe.

    Hi Joe,
Sometimes less is more. I think that a severe crop of the bushes would not only emphasize the bike but would also strenghten the framing. By showing only a portion of the bushes, making them extend to the edge of the frame, you can create the illusion that the bushes are bigger than they are.
Here is an example of what I mean:

    Snow Ride

This is of course very small but you should be able to get a reasonable size from the original.
