    Timelapse Advise

I am heading out to the desert (Joshua Tree National Park) this weekend for some camping and star gazing AND no rock climbing (GASP I know). Since we are going out for a relaxing weekend I am wondering if you guys and gals could offer up some advise on Timelapse creation.

How long do you think I need to have the timelapse run for?

    My setuo:
Tripod --> SkyWatcher Star Adventurer --> Sony A7iii.

The Star Adventurer will be set up on Timelapse, with a photo interval of 2 sec. The mount will open the shutter for 1.5sec and close for 0.5sec. Im going to test at home tonight to see if the camera can override the mount shutter control. If not I guess I will have to use my wireless shutter control and add it into the photo chain.

I would suggest that depends upon the length of time you want the completed 'movie' to last. If you work on 30fps to make a 15 second long movie that will be 450 images needed.

Here's a great resource for info on Timelapse and some superb tutorials https://lrtimelapse.com/.

There is a free download of the Timelapse software but it has an image limit which I believe is 400.

Out of interest, what you are shooting with a 1.5 sec exposure?

I just made a timelaps with 474 images using Panolapse. The ouput size is limited to 1280x720 for the free edition.
In my case it was a try out from a tower down to the harbour. I used 3s interval and made two movies: one with 15fps and 1 with 30 fps. Just finding out the differences and the best settings for me.

I think you should set both focus and exposure to manual. What that stuff is what you're using I don't know.

So I decided to return the SkyWatcher unit as I could not control the shutter speed. The unit would always override the camera settings.

I am not using 1.5-sec exposure, as that will be way too overexposed for a daytime image. I am planning to make a timelapse of the campsite while we are hanging out and what not.

If the Sony doesn't have a time laps function then buy a remote control with a time laps function. They're not that expensive.

I already have an intervalometer. I was hoping that the tracking mount would control this function as it would eliminate a cable that could potentially get snagged during the panning. oh well, the tracker is on its way back to the supplier because it didnt function the way I wanted it to.

This project idea has been abandoned for now.

Since the thread is closed I dare ask you Daniel, to tell us about your experience with the Tamron 28-75 when coupled in the 7III.
Can you post some shots, please...

Thank you. I am pretty curious a bout the capabilities of this lens.

Antonio, keep an eye out for some upcoming posts. Last weekend I took the kit out to the desert for some outdoor activities. I would recommend not using my images as a critical decision maker as they willprobably speak for them self in terms of quality. ALso, you can look up my Project 52 thread all photos are taken with the A7iii and Tamron 28-75 EXCEPT for the moon images.
