How to tone down that whicker basket

Sorry, I'm late to this thread, but it seems to be a good candidate for luminosity masking ...

Thank you for your comment Bill. I have given that a try but I find that whatever I do, even cropping away some of the basket, it still dominates the image so I conclude that I framed it poorly in the first place.:mad:

And the wide angle lens didn't help mattters since it accentuates the size of a foreground.

I just toned it down a little in LR, it took 1 minute with the adjustment brush

Thank you for commenting, Erik. I had in mind that the basket should be similar in tone to the those in the distance; so darker than yours and lighter than Manfred's in post #2. But as I said, I now think the original image was poorly framed.

Yes that is much closer to what I was hoping to achieve.:)

No worries David. I think that we may be trying too hard! I downloaded the file and tried adjusting using luminosity masking but didn't like the result so went back to basics. Made a simple selection with the Quick selection tool, and pulled down the highlights using a curves adjustment, and got this, which looks close to the baskets in the bikes near the top right,

Thanks David. I am in the process of moving my main editor from CaptureOne Pro to Photoshop and 'having a go' at your problem basket was a nice exercise for me.
