Thank you all !
I have bought one A7 III brand new !
Congratulations on your new Sony. I hope that you will really enjoy using it.
I am still going to stick with the Sony APSC format cameras.
Thank you Richard !
I think you will REALLY REALLY enjoy the A7iii. It makes my photos look like I know what I'm doing. I'm looking forward to seeing your work.
Thank you Daniel !
I have been hesitating too long now but I am getting the Sony 12-24 f/4.0 and a Sony 50mm f/1.8 !
My wife has a Sony 85mm f/1.8 !
Good to go !
The lens that I would like to see is a reasonably priced and reasonably sized long focal length lens for either a full frame or crop factor Sony e-mount camera.
There are a few longer lenses but, they are either massively sized (in comparison to an APSC sized Sony) and/or massively priced. There is the 55-210mm f/4.5-5.6 (kit lens) which is neither sharp enough nor fast enough for me to use regularly.
I'd like to see a lens such as the Canon or Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6. Decent quality, relatively low price (about $450 USD for the Canon) and a reasonable form factor (1.4 pounds for the Canon and 1.7 pounds for the Tamron).
There was a lens in this category for the Sony A mount: Sony G-Series 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 SSM G Lens. However the e-mount, Sony 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G SSM II Lens costs $1,148 (USD) at B&H; pretty expensive but, at least, this lens has a decent form factor at 1.7 pounds.
Hopefully, with the profusion of Sony mirrorless cameras, both full-frame and crop factor, some third party companies like Tamron might introduce a lens to fill the gap...
This lens can be purchase for about $500 (USD) and it would need the A to E mount converter for about $200 new both from B&H.
Tamron has the 28-75 f2.8 emount AND they have already announced they are working on something to cover the 70-200 range. Tamron also just released the 17-28 range lens for the empount system, however, it too pricy for my uses. I personally really enjoy the Tamron 28-75 f2.8, im not too sure I could tell the differance between the Sony version of this lens.

Thank you Daniel for the tip on the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 !
Have I understood correctly that you also use the Sony 24-70 f/2.8 lens ?
Unfortunately, I have not used the 24-70 f2.8. When I purchased the Tamron 28-75 I had made the following decisions.
1) We are no longer using the Sony A7iii for video so we didn't need the Sony 24-105mm f4 for its video capabilities.
2) The 24-105 was too expensive, we perform 5-6 weddings a year and the rest is hobby photography.
3) The Reviews I read of the 24-70 f2.8 were just okay (nothing too special); which took this lens out of the competition pretty quickly.
4) The reviews of the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 were superb.
5) At the time of purchase, the Tamron was $799, Sony 24-70 was $899, Sony 24-105 was $1399
Based on our needs at the time we opted to purchase the Tamron 28-75 f2.8, I have been overly happy with the lens performance. I hope this helps you out. With the cost savings of purchaseing the Tamron 28-75 versus the Sony 24-105 ($600 savings) I was able to take a trip to Utah, USA with my wife and document our trip as well as our friends nursing school graduation. The purchase of the Tamron made both myself and my wife happy.
Thank you Daniel for your reply.
Would you please show some images made with the Tamron ?
Perhaps you have a site and...
Cheers !
I really have a site per say, Im still building up my portfolio to even justify a site. I really want to stress that my images are far from good but the results make me happy so to me the lens is great. Im still trying to nail down the technical aspects of this hobby. Lighting is somthing thta still perplexes me.
My project 52 (which has turned into a project 26, every 2 weeks) can be found here on the CIC site. Everything but the moon/star images is taken withthe Tamron.
I also have put together a small collection of images for your viewing here
Thank you Daniel !
I have seen those of the dog... these are all the others are pretty good !
I do like those in the snow ! Snow is hard to photograph correctly. Well done !
