    On The Edge

From Lake Maggiore near Baveno Italy. Taken while on a boat ride.

I think this image would look stunning in B&W.

Looks good. Timeless look to that scene although possibly too many similar tones for B&W. Maybe if you increased the contrast that might help with a conversion?

Also, I wonder if this is one of those occasions where a painting effect might work?

Thanks Geoff. I will try both suggestions.

I investigated the painterly effect and found that there was much to learn before attempting it so here is my B&W version:

I prefer the B&W version because it is 'striking' whereas the colour version is 'nice.'

That works for me, Joe. Good strong contrast.

The edited photo looks vintage more of like a sketch. I hope to visit this place in the future.

Definitely the colour for me. It's a pity to lose those soft Italian pastels. So typical.

If we look at the HSL lightness (luminosity) histogram, it might not take much more contrast, it already has a good wide spread between 0-100%; but the saturation histogram is quite low with a tallish peak at about 25%. Pardon my pedantry ...

Thanks Geoff. I am still contemplating a painterly version. I am thinking of adding a layer of cloth like mesh and merging to give a canvass-like appearance. Have not found a mesh yet except for a paid download from Adobe. Not ready for another subscription service yet. Still looking....
