No not the two entertainers... We named these two poodle mix dogs Sonny and Cher... They were found wandering in a remote area near our property, We had just seen a large coyote in that area the day before the two dogs were found, in deplorable condition, by a good Samaritan who took this picture...
No tags, only one dog wearing a collar which was so tight it had to be cut off. The Samaritan checked for lost dogs on the County Animal Control website, posted finding the dogs on our local community newsletter, on Craig's list and posted signs about the area. It was pretty obvious that the dogs had been dumped and abandoned. A lot of dogs have been dumped in that area... She called us and asked if we would help find the two darling dogs a good home. She also bathed them. This is what they looked like when they arrived at out home..
They would have looked like T-Bone steaks on the hoof to Mister Hungry Coyote...
We decided to name them Sonny and Cher because those names just seemed to suit them. We had them attended by out vet for a fecal check, all shots and the important spay and neuter. After some initial grooming, we posted them on out rescue website and we had a possible adopter in less that a day. All the adopter's information looks great and we will meet her tomorrow for a home check.
This is what the dogs look like now. Still a bit shaggy about the ears but, in generally no worse for their travel through coyote country...

It is a sin to dump dogs and is also illegal. Although the County Shelters charge a fee if someone gives up their dog, anyone can get around that by saying the found the dog/dogs running loose. And of course there are always rescue groups like ours. We will even come an pick up an unwanted dog to save it from being dumped...
