    Nice capture and expression, just a small issue for me: the line of the furniture just on his head. If you were shooting 10 cm higher it 'd be better.

    Overall an effective portrait, but a number of little things stand in the way of a good portrait.

    1. The point Jean has mentioned; the bright area above his head is a significant distraction. If you are investing the time to take a portrait, look at the background and eliminate distracting elements.

    2. The hand and the positioning of the hand is awkward. Does it belong to your father or is someone else punching him in the face from below? Disconnected body parts like this can end up looking strange.

    3. It looks like your father is squinting. Is the light so harsh that he had to close his eyes?
