Early Spring Sunrise over the St Lawrence River

This is a 5-image (-2, -1, 0, +1, +2) HDR image take just after sunrise on the St Lawrence River near Johnstown, Canada.

This is the main recreational boat dock. Most of the boats were stored just behind from where I was shooting. It will be another 1-1/2 months before the boats are put back into their slips.

Nice capture. I like the way the sun is shining through the bridge.

However, I don't seem to recognize what all that white stuff covering the dock and the river can be

Seems like winter is hanging on excessively long, for you, this year. We went from the coldest March on record to the warmest driest April (so far) Yet the rest of Canada is still cold and snowy it seems

I think the image has worked well The sun and yellow light is retained with no weird HDR artifact elsewhere

I played around and created a B&W version of this shot.

Early Spring Sunrise over the St Lawrence River

This results in a much simpler image but misses the strange colours caused by the mixed light of the rising sun on the snow on the river.

Oh! Right! I guess all that white stuff is what is called snow!

I do like the simplicity of the B&W image but, both versions are really nice...

It has been a long and difficult winter. I believe we have broken the all time record for the length of time that snow has been on the ground this season (I think that was almost a week ago) and every day that we still have snow (and there is still quite a bit), the record gets longer.

I suspect I will be cutting the grass within the next 4 weeks. Once the snow is gone, the ground warms up quickly and the grass starts growing.

The B&W certainly brings across the 'chill' factor even if it loses the yellow light on the river. As such I feel my personal preference is for your latter rendition.
