Thanks, for posting, Warren, and how festive! It may not be "your best" but it's definitely got that magic! Best of all, it's a completely fresh and unique shot to my eyes. Beautiful!
Thanks Katy, if I had a tripod with a detachable face, I most definitely would have used a tripod here, but this was the best I could get without one. Its funny, the reality looks way cooler than the image I captured in film, oh well.
That's, actually, part of the "exercise" in this thread - Christmas photos can be disappointing when compared to the real experience.
Oh, I'm right with you on the tripod thing. I FINALLY got used to using the lightweight portable one and I went back to retrieve it from its safe resting place and it's not the same tripod I left behind. One of the legs is "crunched" and part of the extension keeps slipping. At least I discovered it in a safe, indoor environment instead of watching the leg go out from under it outside and my camera ploinking into the pond. We have another tripod (better) but it's going to be Mission Impossible to steal it away from my husband (who never uses it ). The real point is, however, I'm slightly discouraged that I have to get used to a new one. I had gotten pretty familiar and quick with the old one.
Steve, this photo of the church is otherworldly. It hits that place in my heart that certain illustrations from childrens' books are cherished. It's kind of Arthur Rackham. Beautiful!
Also, I have to confess, it shocked me. I AM a pastor's wife but, so far, have been thinking an awful lot about the "fluff" of Christmas. I mean, I am working on the Vespers worship service and haven't totally forgotten but, this was a gorgeous shock.
Anyone around here Jewish? Also, I was thinking that the Indian "Festival of Lights" would fit in here nicely. (I hope that I've said all this correctly - forgive me if I'm off!)
Cheers Katy, I processed it more like a painting because I think I was pushing my luck trying to get high definition in the dark from a single frame, and too much traffic to do HDR.
Well, unfortunately Hanukkah is already done but I will lite all the candles tonight and try to get some image that you will be proud of.
I love this! Though if I may....super nit picky here, I wish that it were leveled just a little bit. Then the symmetry of this shot would really sing. And perhaps just cropped the top so you don't see the top of the shelf. But your probably just being festive so you can just ignore me.
Happy Hanukkah!
We put the tree up today. All the lights worked, we haven't started divorce proceedings even though the angel appears to run off with Action Man. I do have a few more shots but I am starting with Man Flu. Looks like at least a month tucked up in bed with a hot water bottle being tended by WireVixen in a nurses outfit....how we men do suffer!
Steve - I think Katy will be suitably impressed!
You have again shown us something 'usual' in a most unusual way, #3 is the stunner of the bunch for me.
I hope for WireVixen's sake you get over your dose of man flu quite quickly....from my experience there can be some terribly virulent strains of that particular 'germ-nome'
Only you can 'see' Christmas decorations in this way.
And, please, my dear friend take great care of your health. I find that non-men struggle to understand the severity of these ailments that afflict us. They just don't see that, as hunter gatherers, we are exposed to many more dangerous viruses and need to rest whenever the first signs begin to emerge.
I still like # 3 best
and Dearest Donald you are teetering perilously close to the edge of your pedestal
My advice is be alert not alarmed.....but you may wish to consider the the Wirefox-ish one is perhaps showing signs of being a more 'Brutus-esque friend' than the genuine article...
and actually hoping to see you slip up in the eyes of your 'Lady groupies'......only to assume the role for himself
