    Water Level in the lake.

Water levels in Lake Ontario have been rising this summer as a result of snow melt and a rainy spring. This has resulted in flooding in Ottawa and Montreal, in addition to residences along the St Lawrence River.
This shot is of a pond in a park, adjacent to Lake Ontario, which has been filled to overflow point from back-flow from the Lake. This fortunately has not produced any hardship to area residents, but the flooded pond did present a reflective pool which I decided to take advantage of. The ripples in the center of the pool did somewhat frustrate that plan, but I am still happy with the result.

    Water Level in the lake.

Nice shot, have you seen many sandbags near the shore or near people's property?

Not in my immediate area as we are quite dry. But in Ottawa and Montreal in the news I have seen berms of sand bags trying to keep the waters at bay

    Joe,

Thanks for responding, I saw the same in the news and wondered if perhaps old footage was shown.

I shall always remember that when I was in Junior School (age 7-11) I did a project about the construction and potential of the St Lawrence Seaway. It would have been soon after it opened. There was no internet to research it!

Hi Nandakumar: The Great Lakes are all freshwater.

The western end of the St Lawrence River, near Kingston, Canada (which is where Lake Ontario, the eastern most of the Great Lakes, where all the other Great Lakes drain into) and the Gulf of St Lawrence starts (just east of Quebec City) is about 500 km / 300 miles. The sea (Atlantic Ocean) is much further away; almost 1200 km / 750 miles from the eastern tip of Lake Ontario.

Not close at all, in my view. It is a 2 hour flight or about a 24 hour drive at highway speeds.

    Nandakumar,

From the description, this photo is somewhere in the red ellipse.

No the water in the lake is not salty. The lake has an elevation of 245 ft., and the water must flow over 500km before getting to the estuary and from there to the ocean.
