    Not the village green

Took a wee drive to the East Neuk of Fife yesterday and looked in at the Ship Inn in Elie, to discover that there was a beach cricket match in full swing, despite the rain. Apparently the pub has a cricket club and their programme for the year includes matches with teams from the MCC and Australia. Yesterday's was between the universities of St Andrews and Edinburgh.

1: The scene. The water is from rain, and not pools left over from the tide.

    not the village green

2: The rain did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the competitors.

    not the village green

3: It was a tad on the cool side too, and there were some unconventional but sensible choices of clothing.

C&C are of course welcome, but please bear in mind these are posted as records of the event and not for technical merit

Looked like quite a bit of action on the other side of the wall as well, nice efforts.

Thanks John. The shot you mention is the one I was thinking of in the "C&C" comment. It's probably a better "photograph" if the top third is cropped out but I left it in because of what it adds to the story telling.

There was a feature on the fact that the pitch/field is on a beach in a Sunday paper last weekend.

Anyway, you say it is merely a record of the event, but records can have technical and aestheric merit as well (see, for example, Don McCullin). I think the third one meets that criteria. It's a good image.

    Thanks Donald.

I gave up on Sunday papers a while ago (another Brexit casualty) so missed the feature. The East Neuk is a favourite spot and the Ship Inn a favourite place to eat but I was completely unaware of the beach cricket history there.

It was in The National, Bill, the only supporter of independence.

It's been a while since I was in the Ship Inn, but, yes, its a great place to go.
