    Neat shot - it really shows the intensity of the moment. IMO it might benefit from opening the shadows beneath the blond contestant. That way I can see the right leg of the contestant who is wearing the headband. There appears to be enough information to do this opening without degrading the image...

    This is one image where the B&W treatment might be more of an issue that leaving the shot in colour.

    Opening the shadows is a good first step but the tangled gray bodies do not give a clear indication of what arm, leg and torso belongs to which athlete. I wonder if colour would provide better separation. The same goes for the mat that they are on. I assume that these are tatami and have a very pleasant light green colour to them.

    Opening the shadows worked. I think Manfred is right, colours should separate the athletes further.

    What really prompted me to convert was the bright pink hair of the subdued fighter, thanks for commenting.

    Now that would have made a very interesting contrast to the very conservatively dressed other athlete!
