Wonder what breed she is?

We have recently rescued, 2-year old, Jolie from a local Humane Society shelter. She was extremely frightened and as such was not a candidate for the usual adoption to the public. The shelter asked us to take Jolie so she could be socialized. Things are going well, she is following my wife around and has learned that I make great chicken jerky so she is warming up to me.

The shelter had her listed as a Shih Tsu but, we don't think that is in her genes. Instead, we strongly suspect a mixed terrier ancestry. The front of her coat is soft and fluffy while the rear half is terrier coarse.







What combination of breeds do you think that Jolie is? We think that her genes may contain some Yorkshire Terrier ancestry. Who knows what else? Whatever her ancestry, she is quite a cutie!

Richard, not knowing a lot about dog breeds, I haven't a clue about her genealogy. But these are really great portraits!

Thank you Bruce. I was quite surprised how cooperative she was. When I did her entry portrait, she was very fearful amd that showed. It didn't worry me because the entry portrait is just to establish a base line...



As soon as a dog begins to eat my chicken jerky, I know that I have her in my pocket. It took Jolie about three days before she would accept the treat from me. However, it is only going to be uphill from now on with Jolie...

Nice looking pup, the fur does look Shih Tsu but the cut does give it the terrier look.

Richard, I showed the portraits to my wife. Unlike me, she's well acquainted with dogs. My wife's immediate reaction was that the dog looked like she had terrier in her.

Any yes, what a difference in Jolie's expression between your entry portrait and the later ones you posted at the beginning of this thread! Who says dogs (and cats) don't have facial expressions!

Not enough of an expert to comment on her lineage, but yet again i am in awe of the work you do with these animals who deserve better than the cards they have been dealt in life....so far.

I think these are wonderful portraits. The cut makes it difficult to really know. Terrior mix of some type? I don't know my small dogs very well.
